Antique oak flooring can at times be reclaimed flooring, but should you be unsure as to whether to use reclaimed wood, why not consider new wood flooring, pre-finished in Antique style.  This is a great option that creates an authentic antique design.

There are a variety of pre-finished antique oak floors available but here are a few recommendations to look for when selecting:

  • Consider the thickness of the boards – the thicker the better.
  • Look for tongue and groove with a micro-bevelled edge for easier fitting using secret nailing or bonding.
  • Check the seal applied to the wood is a UV seal that is cured and contains ceramic elements.  This type of seal results in the most authentic antique appearance, as the surface finish is semi-glossed.

To create that authentic antique feel in your home hardwood flooring will be essential.  Use the guide to ensure your flooring choice will create a traditional base for your furniture and artefacts.
