The Direction of Hardwood Floor Boards

There are some traditional rules about the direction that hardwood flooring should be laid.  If you are considering hardwood flooring throughout the property a good rule of thumb is to start at the hallway.  Boards should be laid lengthwise down the hallway.  Working from the hallway into other rooms – again there is suggestion that the boards should be laid in the direction of the longest wall in the room, this creates the feeling of more space in the room.
